Mountain Biking:
The focus on this unit is:
What Benefits are to be gained from Biking? Self/Community/Earth Health and Fitness Rules and Laws Students are divided into three groups and are provided with one of the topics listed above. Together, on a large piece of poster paper students use previous knowledge to brainstorm and discuss their topic. All information that they come up with is recorded on their poster. After 5 minutes, the students present and share with the class their topic. After the presentation the instructor fills in the gaps. |
Rate of Perceived Exertion:
I enjoy covering RPE as part of the Mountain Biking unit. There are many factors that can turn an easy cruise into a challenging ride. Students brainstorm: the temperature outside, the surface you're riding on, the incline (uphill, downhill) and the duration in which you're riding.
Students connect that the greater the effort exerted, the greater increase of ones Heart Rate. Students see the correlation between the RPE number and their heart rate. |
