Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is to create opportunities for students to learn, explore, and develop through physical activity into well rounded individuals.
Physical education is a unique opportunity to empower students. It is an opportunity for them to develop their potential and to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to reach that potential. I believe that in order to successfully do this, students must be encouraged, motivated, and challenged. Every student has the potential to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. This means making good choices and participating in activities that they can enjoy and sustain for a lifetime.
I do not have the expectation that all of my students will be in peak physical condition. I expect my students to go into each learning experience with a positive attitude. I expect them to put forth their best effort into gaining knowledge and skill to feel confident participating in the activity in their future. I also hope that they enjoy the activity enough to share it and continue it with friends and family.
Empowering students goes beyond skill and activity level. I have learned that physical education has the ability to provide various opportunities to empower students through personal and social development, growth, and responsibility. I believe that through personal and social responsibility, a positive class environment will be created where students become more aware of their effect on the well being of their peers, which can be translated into areas of life outside the classroom through discussion and reflection. My ability to communicate and connect with students, along with having high personal and social expectations of my students, will create an environment that is conducive to them developing into sterling individuals as well as functional members of the community.
My goal for each of my students is to feel empowered by the possibilities, IAMpossible vs. the impossible. The possibilities of having the knowledge and confidence in their skills for leading a healthy, enjoyable, and active lifestyle, all while taking what they have learned personally and socially, and implementing an awareness and respect in their daily lives.
