Challenge Activities:
At South Meadow we try to create situations where we ask students to go out of their comfort zones, we call this challenge by choice.
Meaning, students are given the opportunity to challenge themselves whether it's climbing the rock wall and going all the way to the top, or if it's putting on a harness and getting just a foot off the ground. We create an environment that allows the students to feel comfortable to try and can stop at any point. Most of the time we find that either the next day, or the next year when students have an opportunity to try this activity again that they often are excited to surpass their previous accomplishment. We also offer a suspended high beam. Students climb a rope ladder onto the beam to which they walk down and back and propel off. Students challenge themselves to let go and relax in tough situations, along with the added trust component. Its always great to hear students encouraging one another as they walk the beam or climb the wall. |
